For our meeting on Saturday 20th July, we held a barbecue. The weather was great and all who attended seemed to enjoy the day. The food was prepared and cooked by Barbara and Bev and was excellent. So thanks to all who helped and attended.
Changes to the welfare bill
I am still concerned about the changes to the welfare bill, especially those relating to Disability living allowance, I know some people have had some worries over the way interviews have been conducted, and I am sure there are more changes to come. If anyone has any comments about their interview I would appreciate a call. The one thing that does appear to be explained is that if you can walk over twenty metres, even with walking aids you are likely to lose the higher rate of motobility, there may be changes but we will have to wait and see. I know many of the disability groups are at present making representations to government over these changes and they have announced that they will look into it more.
The MS Society is encouraging people to respond to the latest consultation which will close on 5 August. See the link on our Home page www.myelitis.org.uk to voice your views.
New TM Society website
Barbara, our Chairman, has I know has informed members about the new TMS website. This is really easy to use. The website address is www.myelitis.org.uk. You can get various types of information on TM, and if you look for Support Groups, they are all there for your perusal. Click onto the Poole and
Bournemouth and you get all the local information including dates of meetings, photographs of recent events and relevant information, so please try it out. Its great even for me.
Recently Jo Gillfinnan obtained permission for her to be involved in her Waitrose Branch in Salisbury to collect at one of their monthly charities when a sum of £1000-00 is divided between three named charities. Her charity was TM and she had the largest green counters in the TM section and raised nearly £350-00 for the branch. This seems a good way to raise funds so if any of you have a Waitrose near you just apply for a form there may
be a wait but it is an excellent idea, I will be doing this from my local Waitrose at Winton.
I am also informed that we will be sponsored by Mower Madness again this year under their new charity, they have been very pro active over the last two years and very helpful to us. So thanks to Steve Bell and Mower Madness.
